Nervous system

Healing the Nervous System

When most people hear the words “nervous system,” they think of science class diagrams — neurons firing, electrical signals moving through the body. But what I’ve learned, both through personal experience and research, is that the nervous system is so much more than a biological system. It’s the foundation for how we live, feel, and connect with the world.

If your nervous system is thriving, you wake up with energy, you handle challenges with resilience, and you feel present in your own life. But if it’s dysregulated stuck in survival mode even small things can feel overwhelming.

For years, I lived in that survival mode without even knowing it. From the outside, people thought I was “lazy,” unmotivated, or just not trying hard enough. Inside, I was exhausted, disconnected, and unsure why I couldn’t keep up with the pace of life. My body wasn’t broken in the traditional sense but it also wasn’t able to rest, recover, or feel safe.

That’s the reality for so many people: we’re surviving, not thriving, because our nervous systems are constantly on alert. And often, we don’t even have the language to explain it.

This part of Makia Blogs is dedicated to understanding and healing the nervous system from every angle science, personal experience, and practical tools you can start using right now.

Here, you’ll find:
