About me

I used to think my story was defined by a single moment—the day a brain injury turned my world upside down. For a long time, I wore the label of “Survivor” like a badge of honor. I needed it to get through the days. But eventually, I realized that if I stayed a survivor, I would be forever tied to the thing that broke me.

I realized that “survival” is a state of being, but “becoming” is a way of life.

I’m Morgan Thain-Miller, and I founded Makia because I wanted to see what happened when I stopped looking back. I realized that my injury wasn’t the end of my story; it was a “forced reset” that allowed me to rebuild a life from the soul up.

We all have a “before” and an “after.” We all have moments where we feel misplaced, overwhelmed, or “too much” for the world around us.

Makia is a space for the “after.” It is a journey-led platform focused on the tiny, daily choices we make to regulate our nervous systems, change our perspectives, and finally find our “soul places” in this world.

Here, we explore:

  • The Internal Rhythm: Moving out of survival mode and into a regulated, peaceful state.
  • Perspective Shifts: Learning that when you change the way you look at things, the things you look at begin to change.
  • The Becoming: Navigating the weird, beautiful, and sometimes messy reality of growth.

I’m not an expert with all the answers. I’m a student of growth, a traveler of the world, and a believer that our history is just the soil not the whole garden.

This is a living document of the becoming. I’m glad you’re here for the journey.
